De Beers Canada has joined the Canadian Diamond Code of Conduct (CDCC), a consumer-protection system that tracks Canadian diamonds from mine to consumer.

De Beers owns and operates two mines in Canada, Snap Lake in the Northwest Territories and Victor in the province of Ontario, which will now fall under the Code. The code is endorsed by the Competition Bureau of Canada and the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO).

The CDCC works to ensure that diamonds mined in Canada benefit communities within the country and are mined in accordance with Canada's strict environmental standards.

"On behalf of the CDCC, we would like to welcome De Beers Canada as a signatory to the Code and applaud their recognition of the Code's value to the integrity, transparency and growth of the Canadian diamond industry," said CDCC Chair Phyllis Richard.
